ABSTRACT:
Experiments consisting in the pouring of hot water onto a pool of liquid refrigerant R12 are performed. Vapor explosions are observed when pouring boiling water onto a pool of refrigerant R12, both without and with a flow of air in the refrigerant to increase its initial void fraction. A light extinction technique is used to measure the void fraction just before the pouring of the water.
